Welcome to the Opinionary!

By Ben Hopkins

Hello, reader.

My name is Ben Hopkins, the first editor of the Opinion section of the Boise Classical Academy Newspaper. If you don't know who I am, you can either check out the politics section or ask one of the teachers. Either way, it doesn't really matter. I'm only here to tell you all about this section of the newspaper and to lay down some rules.

BCA is, at its heart, a school that loves to debate. Whether it's during History or Study Hall, there will always be someone defending their opinions in some way. However, sometimes we don't have the time to finish what we were going to say. Or, maybe we did way to much research on a topic that we found interesting, and we need to present it somehow. Look no farther than the Opinionary!

I chose this name for a reason. Not only does it sound official and journalistic, but opinions are the point of this section of this newspaper. This is meant to be a platform for anybody to voice their opinions in a safe and respectable way. In order to keep it like that, this is what you are not allowed to post:

  • Anything that is offensive, vulgar, or profane

  • Anything that purposefully belittles the opinions of or hurts the reputation of a person or group of people

  • Anything that is overly hateful or discriminatory against a certain person or group of people

  • Anything that you wouldn't want your parents to see or read

Please note that these rules are subject to change!

But what can you do? This whole section is yours to control! Did you not like how the student body presidential election turned out? Put it in the Opinionary! Do you think that John Calvin was right about predestination? Put it in the Opinionary! Are books sandwiches? Put it in the Opinionary! All you have to do is email your article to one of the current editors. They will look it over, suggest some edits, and put it in! (And believe me, they are really desperate for content.)

Happy reading and writing!
